Maping Longitude and Latitude

Longitude lines have a Meridian which it passes through 0 degrees longitude. The lines of longitude run North To South when you are looking at a map. They measure the distance east to west of the Prime Meridian. The Prime Meridian is furthest from the equator and they meet at the poles. All the lines are equal length from each other. They are each equal length east, to west, not north to south. Longitude is measured by imaginary lines running parallel to the equator and used to measure the distance in degrees north or south of the equator. That is the definition of Longitude.

Test Summary

We went over the test in class today, I didn't do that well, but I think that's because I didn't study enough. I only studied for like an hour over two nights. I definitely need to study way more than that. During the time that we went over the test I was learning all my mistakes and I have figured out most of the questions. I think if I took the test again I would get a way higher score than I did the first time, because of the fact that we went over it as a class and it was very helpful. I think my first essay had a enough words but I didn't state enough facts, for how long the essay was. The second essay was a little bit shorter than the first essay but I stated way more facts than I did on the first essay. I got a better grade on the second essay and I think it was just because of the fact that I had way more evidence to support my answer. So before I take tests, I have to do a better job of studying the info that I don't know and not as much the info that I hav

Difference between Marcator maps and Peters World Map

Peters world map is a map of all the continents but labeling the countrys within them. The first thing I notice when I look at these kinds of maps, is that they are way more stretched out than other maps. So in Mercator maps it is what most kids see when they are in school and such when they are all the same size, but in Peters world map you can see a clear difference in size. Africa in Peters world map, is much larger than Africa on the Mercator map. It looks like its almost unrealistic and very stretched in the picture because we don't usually see it like this. In Mercator maps it does a good job of showing us lines of constant course and labeling key features. Mercator maps are very understandable and every body likes them since we have seen them so many times. Peters world map was more controversial and not as many people enjoyed it since it is a new and different kind of map. Class notes on maps

So in class today we were taking notes on different maps on how they were different. How they were the same. What we liked and what we didn't like about them as well. So one of the maps was a map of only the United states and it had many of the states labeled but no other continents or countries besides that. So that map was not classified as a world map, I don't know what they map is called though. That map is showing us topography as it showed us highways, airports. It also showed us some rivers and the key showed the scale of the map. The second map was a Gal stereographic map and that map instead of just showing the United States it showed all of the continents. Also is showed all the countries too, but it did not show the states within the United States like the first map. The third one also had all the continents but the were bigger than the second map and probably more accurate. On this map all the oceans were labeled as well unlike the other two maps. This map doesn&#

I wasn't in class today because I left early for the soccer game.

Definitions of words part 2

During class today we went over some definitions of words such as agora which is the central market place in most of the ancient Greek city states. Usually the Agora was located around the center of town so everyone could see it and it was easy to access. Another word we went over in Polis which is a small state in Greece that was originated by the natural divisions of the country by mountains and the sea. During 508 B.C. there was a very important event which was the foundations of Athenian Democracy was placed with some serious reforms. People rose against their leaders and overpowered them. Socrates was a Greek philosopher best known as a founder of western philosophy, and he was the first moral philosopher of e western ethical trade. The Socratic method is named after Socrates and was used to improve human beings by increasing their understanding of information. If people called you an idiot, that means that you were very self-centered and didn't go to group meetings and just d

Human Georgraphy 101 A message to Garcia 9-6-19

A message to Garcia was published in 1899. It got reprinted as a pamphlet, and as a book because it was so popular. There were over 40 million copies sold. It was written in 37 different languages for everyone to read. There were two movies made out of it. "Take a message to Garcia" is a special quote that is still used in the military meaning to take initiative. Garcia was a revolutionary seeking Cuban independence from Spain. Rowan was an army office, from West Point class of 1881 who took initiative. McKinley was the 25th president from 1897-1891, he was reelected for a second term, but got assassinated 6 months in by an anarchist. The tallest mountain in North America was named after him till 2015. Vocab words: -Perihelion: the point when a planet is closest to the sun such as mars, and therefor it is at its brightest -Slipshod: Careless, remiss, slapdash -Imbecility: Stupidity -Stenographer: a person who takes dictation in short hand -Missive: A letter, especially

Human Geography A message to Garcia

The story a message to Garcia was a story about a man named Garcia who was hiding away from the president. The president named McKinley was in need of talking to Garcia but, Garcia had no interest in talking to the president, so that was why he was hiding. The president knew a man named Rowan who he knew that if anyone could do the job, it was Rowan. So he gave Rowan a letter to give to Garcia for him to read so the president still delivers the message, but since Garcia didn't want to talk, he didn't have too. But it was still a tough job for Rowan because he had to find Garcia and he had been hiding for a while and it was not going to be an easy find. Rowan ended up finding Garcia after only 3 weeks which was very impressive and he delivered the letter. The story was written in a strange form that we will rarely see today what so ever. But back then when this story was made this was a popular writing form, and this story actually went viral. The author Albert believes that p

Human Geo How Hard High School Can Be

High school can be very hard in many ways. I wake up every morning around 6:00 to have enough time to eat breakfast and get ready. Over the summer I was able to stay up really late and sleep in, so the sleep schedule for a little bit is going to be tough. Another thing that is going to be tough all year is managing my time. I play soccer for the JV team here  at John Carroll and I will be playing baseball later on. So after school I am going to have practice until at least 5:00 then I have to eat, do my homework, take my dog on a walk, etc. It is going to be very stressful this year because the after school schedule is so much different then middle school, and I am going to be way more tired then usual. One more thing that is tough about high school is I have to study way more than I did In middle school for tests and quizzes. I heard many upper classman say that if you don't study that you are going to struggle. So I am going to have to prepare mentally and push to study for ever

Human Geography post day 1

The best part of my day was when I got to have my first unscheduled mod and I got some of my homework done for the first time. This was the best part of my day because I have never had anything like this and it is letting me know that I am becoming more independent and responsible for myself. So its all on me and not my parents anymore. The worst part of my day was when I got my text books from biology and algebra because they look very big and intimidating. I feel like its not going to be to much of a struggle but there definitely could be some hard times based on the size of those books, and they are for two of the hardest classes on my schedule. I like my seat on the left because I am not right next to one of my close friends so I wont get distracted, also I am not right in the front but also not in the very back. I am right in the middle of those two which I think is perfect.
